A tourism project creates adaptations for access to Christ the Redeemer statue/Corcovado, Botanical Garden, Sugar Loaf, Tijuca Forest and all routes customarily used by visitors.
The plan provides for the leveling of roads and sidewalks, as well as installing ramps and tactile flooring, the types of warning and directional, thus facilitating the access of wheelchair users and the visually impaired to major attractions. Parking spaces and bus stops near these attractions will also be appropriate to accessibility standards.
The Executive Project was completed earlier this year. The initiative was made possible from an agreement between the City´s Tourism Secretary and the Ministry of Tourism covering the execution of the analysis and planning in addition to printing an accessibility guide. The total investment in the executive project was approximately 150 thousand dollars.
The plan has already been forwarded to the Department of Conservation that will implement it before the 2016 Games – 4,350 Paralympic athletes, coming from 176 countries, are expected to be in the city.
